How to Write Better Prompts for Coding and AI Image Generation

Use task-specific prompt patterns for coding assistants and image tools, with examples that keep requirements and creative direction separate.

How should coding prompts be structured?

Coding prompts work best when they identify the repository context, requested behavior, allowed boundaries, acceptance criteria, and verification steps. The assistant needs to know what may change and how you will decide that the change is complete.

How should image prompts be structured?

Image prompts benefit from separating subject, setting, composition, lighting, materials, mood, and exclusions. Use the syntax and parameters supported by the image tool you are using; parameters are not universal across tools or versions.

What changes between the two workflows?

Coding prompts optimize for verifiable behavior and compatibility with an existing system. Image prompts optimize for visual direction and controlled variation. Both benefit from explicit constraints, but an image prompt should not pretend that a tool supports a parameter it does not document, and a coding prompt should not omit tests or edge cases when correctness matters.

Where AURE fits

AURE can help turn a short coding or creative request into a more structured prompt and tailor the draft to the target model or workflow selected in the product. Review model-specific syntax and the generated instructions before use, especially when a tool's current capabilities are important.
